One out later, Alford led off with a single to right and advanced to second on a throwing error by right fielder Son Asub. Moon Sang-chul followed with a grounder to short, but Oh Yoon-seok broke the 0-0 tie with an RBI double. It was a valuable lead against NC ace and league favourite Eric Peddy.

In the fourth, Alford extended the lead with a solo home run. On a 3B-2S full count, he lined an eight-pitch fastball (152 kilometres) from Peddie for his second straight double-digit home run. It was his 10th in 12 games since 29 July against the Changwon NC. Pedi’s eighth home run of the season.

In the top of the fifth inning, Lee Ho-yeon and Hwang Jae-gyun hit back-to-back singles, and when Hwang took advantage of a throwing error by right fielder Son As-seop on Lee’s hit, Lee stole second and advanced to third. Jang Sung-woo then hit a sacrifice fly on Pedi’s first pitch. It was the game-winning hit.

KT had the bases loaded in the top of the seventh when Kim Min-hyuk singled and pinch-hitter Park Byung-ho walked. After Hwang Jae-gyun was retired on a fielder’s choice, Byun Jae-dae came home to widen the gap.

KT starter Choi Byung-seong earned his sixth win of the season with a quality start of six innings and one run on seven hits with two walks and no strikeouts. He was followed by Son Dong-hyun, Park Young-hyun and Kim Jae-yoon. At the plate, Alford and Oh Yoon-seok led the offence with multi-hit performances.

Meanwhile, NC starter Pedi suffered his fourth loss of the season (15 wins) after giving up three runs (one earned) on six hits (one home run) with one walk and six strikeouts in five innings. Son went 3-for-3 with a walk in the multi-hit game, but was let down by two throwing errors in the outfield.

After a day off, KT will play a three-game midweek series against Doosan in Jamsil on the 15th. NC will welcome Hanwha at home.
