British publication Sports Illustrated on Friday listed the 10 highest-paid soccer players in the world. The publication said it conducted the survey as several stars have recently moved to the Saudi Arabian league, where they receive huge paychecks.
Topping the list were Cristiano Ronaldo (Al Nasr) and Karim Benzema (Al Ittihad). The two former Real Madrid teammates each earn £172 million from their clubs.
Neymar (Al Hilal) and N’Golo Kante (Al Ittihad) tied for third place with £86 million ($146.7 million). This means that the top four highest-paid soccer players in the world all play in Saudi Arabia.
In fifth place is Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain), who earns £60 million ($102.3 billion) a year. Mbappe is the only player on the list who plays in Europe.
Lionel Messi (Inter Miami) is sixth on the list with an annual salary of £39 million ($66.5 billion). After dominating Europe and winning the World Cup, Messi is spending his final years in the United States.
Tied for seventh were Sadio Mane (Al Nasr) and Jordan Henderson (Al Etihad) with £34 million ($580 million). Riyad Mahrez (Al Ahli) is ninth on £30 million ($511 million) and Khalidou Koulibaly (Al Hilal) is 10th on £26 million ($443 million).
