Spring, MSI, and learning about utilizing bottoms
Genji Esports head coach “Score” Ko “Dong-bin” Ko expressed his confidence in the new season.
Head coach Ko Dong-bin attended the opening media day of the 2023 League of Legends Champions Korea Summer at the Grand Seoul LCK Arena in Jongno-gu, Seoul on April 1. “We made it to the finals in the last spring season, and this summer, we’re going to try to help Zenji make it to the finals as well,” he said.먹튀검증
Ko Dong-bin first took the helm of Zenji last year. With no previous coaching experience, there were some concerns, but he turned those concerns into cheers and successfully led Genji to the LCK Finals for the third consecutive season. Two of those triumphs came against T1, a team he cited as the team he was most wary of, saying, “They’ve always done well every season.”
Genji, who won their second straight LCK title last Spring after winning the Summer title last year, entered the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) as the No. 1 seed in the LCK. Expectations were high, as the team had shown a knack for handling value compositions during the Spring playoffs, but they were unable to overcome the barrier of LPL’s Billabilly Gaming (BLG) and were eliminated, but Ko was positive that the team had grown through the process.
“Our team’s biggest change from last year is the bottom, so we gained a lot of information through Spring and MSI on how to utilize the bottom lane, and our bottom duo also gained experience through that,” he said. “If we can combine that with the upper lane, which we’ve always been good at, I think we’ll be able to do well at Summer and Rold Cup,” he added.
The defending champions faced tough opponents from the opening week. With a match against kt on the 9th followed by T1 on the 11th, coach Ko Dong-bin emphasized the importance of the first game. He said, “We have a game against KT before T1, but I think we can get off to a good start in the opening game and be confident against T1. We need to focus a lot on the KT game,” he said encouragingly.
