The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Oakland Athletics 10-1 in the second game of a three-game home series at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, on Wednesday (March 3).

The Dodgers, who are in first place in the National League West, have won two straight and clinched an early lead in the midweek three-game series. They are 61-45 on the season. Meanwhile, the American League West’s last-place Oakland, which lost its third straight, fell to 30-79.

The Dodgers pounded the Oakland mound in the first inning. After a leadoff double by Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman led off with a single, Will Smith and Max Muncy walked to load the bases before Chris Taylor singled and James Outman scored on an infield single to make it 3-0.

In the second inning, Mookie Betts hit a solo home run with one out. At 2B-1S, he took a four-pitch low changeup from Oakland starter Hogan Harris for his 29th home run of the season. Freeman and Smith followed with back-to-back RBI singles, and “transfer” Ahmed Rosario hit a game-winning two-run shot to right-center field. It was Rosario’s first home run since the trade and his fourth of the season.

Oakland got a run back in the top of the third on a solo home run by Shay Langelius. The Dodgers answered with a run in the bottom of the third on a solo home run by Miguel Rojas.

After overcoming runners on first and second in the top of the sixth, the Dodgers put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run by Jason Heyward and an RBI single by Kike Hernandez with one out in the seventh.

Dodgers starter Tony Gonsoli earned his sixth win of the season, allowing one run on five hits (one homer) with two walks and three strikeouts in five innings. At the plate, Freeman led the offense with three hits, while Betts and Rosario each had multi-hit games. Four home runs lit up the Oakland mound.

Meanwhile, Oakland starter Harris suffered his sixth loss of the season (2-2) after allowing eight runs on nine hits (three homers) with three walks and two strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings. Seth Brown’s two hits and Wrigley’s homer were the only bright spots in the loss.

The Dodgers go for a three-game sweep when they send Julio Urias to the mound on Thursday. Oakland sends J.P. Sears to the mound.
